Michael Stephens, PhD, LPC
Michael Stephens is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania with a passion for helping individuals, couples, and families navigate their challenges and cultivate positive change. He earned his Master’s Degree in Human Development Counseling, specializing in Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling from the University of Illinois-Springfield in 2014. Subsequently, he completed his doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision at Duquesne University in 2018.
Michael works from a Narrative Therapy approach to counseling which is a helpful tool to assist clients to look at their lives critically and holistically, while processing the changes they would like to see in their lives and relationships. Michael’s clinical goal is to collaboratively unearth the themes of strengths and problems, the strategies they have attempted to work through their problems, strengthen self-identity and awareness, and explore the changes clients want in their lives by breaking changes into manageable tasks. He also integrates systemic therapy by including loved ones into therapy to foster supportive and connected relationships among clients, their spouses, and family members.
With diverse experience across outpatient counseling clinics, school-based therapy, and in-home settings in Pennsylvania and Illinois, Michael has worked extensively with individuals facing a range of diagnoses and challenges. His specialized areas of interest include therapy for Families and Couples, as well as supporting the LGBTQIA community, particularly trans and gender nonconforming individuals, autism spectrum disorders, and borderline personality disorders
Michael firmly believes in the transformative power of learning from one's past experiences in order to liberate oneself and live a more authentically in the present.
